Preprints and Prior Publication

Preprints and Prior Publication Policy

Applied Health Research, Innovation & Education (AHRIE) supports the responsible and timely dissemination of scientific knowledge.

The prior availability of a manuscript in certain repositories or academic venues does not necessarily prevent its evaluation, provided that it is transparently disclosed and does not constitute redundant publication.

Preprints

AHRIE accepts manuscripts that have previously been deposited as preprints on recognized institutional, disciplinary, or general-purpose servers.

Posting a preprint is not, by itself, considered formal prior publication.

When submitting the manuscript, authors must:

• Disclose the existence of the preprint in the cover letter and during the submission process.

• Provide its title, server, permanent link or DOI, and posting date.

• Describe any relevant differences between the preprint and the version submitted to AHRIE.

• Confirm that posting the preprint does not infringe copyright, previous agreements, or institutional obligations.

Preprints and Double-Anonymous Review

AHRIE uses double-anonymous peer review. The public availability of a preprint may allow reviewers or other individuals to infer the authors’ identities.

Consequently, the journal cannot guarantee complete anonymity when the work has already been made publicly available.

Reviewers must not attempt to discover the authors’ identities or deliberately search for external versions of the manuscript.

Authors must not contact potential reviewers or specifically promote the preprint to them while the manuscript is under evaluation.

Updating a Preprint After Publication

If the manuscript is published by AHRIE, authors are encouraged to update the preprint record by adding the full citation and DOI link to the published version.

The preprint must not be presented as identical to or as a replacement for the final version of record published by the journal.

Theses and Academic Works

Manuscripts derived from undergraduate, specialization, master’s, or doctoral theses may be considered even when the thesis is available in an institutional repository.

Authors must disclose this circumstance, identify the repository, and cite the thesis when appropriate.

The article must be adapted to the journal’s format and present a clear scientific contribution. Evaluation will be based on the submitted manuscript rather than the complete thesis.

Conferences and Scientific Meetings

Prior presentation of findings as an abstract, poster, oral communication, or scientific meeting material is generally not considered prior publication, provided that it is disclosed during submission.

Works published in full in conference proceedings will be assessed individually.

To be considered, they must include substantial development, provide additional scientific value, clearly cite the earlier version, and comply with the applicable publication rights.

Repositories and Institutional Documents

The availability of reports, working papers, or preliminary versions in repositories will be evaluated according to their degree of overlap with the submitted manuscript.

Authors must disclose these versions and explain their relationship to the submission.

Prior and Redundant Publication

AHRIE will not accept manuscripts that substantially reproduce previously published articles unless they constitute a translation, update, reproduction, or secondary publication that is expressly justified, authorized, and clearly identified in accordance with applicable editorial standards.

The unjustified division of a single study into multiple manuscripts, commonly known as fragmented or salami publication, may be considered an inappropriate publication practice.

Simultaneous Submission

A manuscript submitted to AHRIE must not be under consideration by another journal at the same time.

Authors wishing to submit it elsewhere must first request its formal withdrawal from AHRIE and wait for confirmation.

Author Responsibility

Failure to disclose a relevant prior version may result in suspension of the evaluation, rejection of the manuscript, or post-publication action.

Authors with questions should contact the editorial team in advance at editorial@ahriejournal.org.
